As I write this, we are on the road home from seeing the Silver Team for the last time until the new year. Since we started on this journey, we’ve been privileged to attend a Thirst Conference with the Silver Team in September, a Summit with the Red Team in October, and now a Summit with the Silver Team before they head home for the holidays. I confess, I only had an inkling of what we were in for when we decided to join Life Action. Here are a few things we’ve gotten to observe and participate in.
Repenting Christians
We’ve sat and listened to messages focused on God’s holiness, our failures, and God’s grace. We’ve heard calls to transparency, repentance, and forgiveness. To be honest, this is nothing new. These are messages that we’ve heard countless times before.
But something we’re seeing in a bigger way is Christians being honest about their personal failures and identifying the ways they need to forgive or reconcile. We’re seeing the gospel play out right before our eyes, and it’s a precious sight.
Transparent Leaders
Life Action events are designed to create a context for an entire church to seek and obey God together, including the leadership. Some of the more touching moments we’ve witnessed have been pastors getting real with their congregation. We’ve heard pastors confess to bitterness, pride, and self-sufficiency. And we’ve watched their people surround them with love and prayer.
I’ve also gotten to sit in staff meetings and interact with pastors and staff. They’ve shared their honest assessments of where their congregation is struggling and what their deep desires are for their people. It’s been amazing to pray with these leaders and see God begin to answer those prayers through the week.
Changing Children
Our own children have surprised us with their responses to the teaching they’ve been receiving from the team. We’ve seen one of our children begin a habit of daily Bible reading. Two of our kids confessed to stealing from us. We may be tempted to view a few quarters or some candy as a minor thing, but it’s a big deal to a child and to God. We’re grateful to witness these evidences of grace in our children!
Growing Opportunities

Though we’ve not yet officially launched into full-time ministry, we’ve already been given a handful of opportunities to roll up our sleeves and work! I’ve gotten to participate in team meetings and lead “Guy Time” devotions. Amanda’s started developing close relationships with the team girls. This past week, Shane welcomed me on stage to share nightly opportunities (AKA announcements) and asked me to teach a portion of Home Life Café on Saturday morning. We’re also making plans to tag-team teach Week 3 of Life Action Family Camp!
It’s been nice to do more than just watch and wait. Participating has provided some confirmation that this is right for us and has whetted our appetites for what’s next!
Warm Welcome
They say home is where the heart is, and in our time with the Silver Team, we’ve definitely found a new home. After feeling a bit uncertain and displaced over the last year, it’s hard to describe the sense of welcome and at-home-ness we’ve felt with the Black family and the team. The few times we’ve gotten to see them have been refreshing, and the times we’ve had to say goodbye have made us homesick.
We’re more ready than ever to hit the road! Now that we’ve hit 50% of our monthly support goal, we need your help to finish strong. As you pray, would you consider becoming a monthly partner? God is doing great things through Life Action. We’re praying that we can join our team in January and support them in serving churches across the country. You can help us get there!
We love all so much!!!!
